Police chief says no poll violence in Pozorrubio

POZORRUBIO– It’s peaceful here.

This was the assurance of Chief Inspector Frankie Castro Candelario, head of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in this town, as he denied reports of an alleged “deteriorating” peace situation here.

Candelario said not a single election-related violent incident  has been observed, reported or recorded in the police blotter since the beginning of the official campaign period and the local PNP is remains in control of the pre-election situation.

Candelario also clarified that reports of an alleged “white pick-up loaded with armed men” going around the town “harassing the campaign people” of the parties of Councilor Ernie Go and Judge Rodrigo Nabor, both in the opposition running against Emma Chan, wife of Mayor Artemio Chan, are unfounded.

He said that the white PNP mobiles on regular patrol duty could have been mistaken for the “white pick-up loaded with armed men” and that the only visible similar vehicle observed around town is actually one owned by a member of the opposition group.

Candelario also gave assurance that PNP checkpoints have been set up in strategic places to prevent any possible election-related violence.

“The PNP sees no perceived need to proclaim a local state of emergency. Not a single requirement of the parameters for the proclamation of such state is present in this town,” he said. – JV
