Lim irked over cancellation of Genuine Opposition rally

Dagupan Mayor Benjamin Lim could not hide his disappointment and annoyance over the second cancellation of a scheduled rally by the Genuine Opposition (GO) candidates in the city.

Lim, an opposition candidate under the PDP-Laban party and running against administration candidate House Speaker Jose de Venecia   Jr. for the fourth district congressional   seat, said he was peeved because his preparation efforts came to naught.

“Abuwisit ak ( I was annoyed),” Lim told The PUNCH in a phone interview.

Gino Garcia, in charge of GO’s Pangasinan campaign sortie, declined to comment when asked by The PUNCH what happened.

He said he was informed about the inability of the opposition senatorial bets to arrive in the city for a major rally in Pangasinan, a known bailiwick of the administration, just seven hours before the scheduled assembly.

Only Sonia Roco, wife of the late Senator Raul Roco, arrived that day.

Those reportedly expected to attend, aside from Roco, were Nikki Coseteng, Sen. Panfilo Lacson, John Osmeña, Antonio Trillanes, Noynoy Aquino and Loren Legarda.

Lacson was in Pangasinan 3 weeks ago to meet with leaders of multi-sectoral groups in the province. He was joined by Rep. Alan Cayetano.

They also consulted Archbishop Oscar Cruz on the status of the campaign against  jueteng. –EVA
