Fernandez-Fernandez woo city’s urban poor
CAMPAIGN TRAIL
MEMBERS of the urban poor rejoiced upon learning that former Mayor Alipio Fernandez Jr. is staging a comeback to reclaim his old post in the city.
This was gleaned from the warm reception given by residents of Bonuan Gueset whom Fernandez and his team, wearing the colors of the Lakas Christian Muslim Democrats, wooed a day after they filed their certificates of candidacies.
Former Councilor Belen Fernandez is also seen returning with a vengeance, this time as a candidate for vice mayor.
The two Fernandezes who are not related, actively collaborated with each other when Dagupan celebrated its 50th year of founding.
Former Councilor Fernandez said she was encouraged by the welcome reception accorded them by the urban poor in that district.
The urban poor settlements in various parts of the city were the first targets of the powerhouse Fernandez-Fernandez tandem when they opened up their 45-day campaign throughout Dagupan.
Tricycle drivers said life was better for them when Mayor Fernandez was still at the helm of the city government.—LM
