DAGUPAN CITY—City Comelec Officer Atty. Remarque Ravanzo has issued a reminder to local candidates about the guidelines for  placement of political advertisements in print and broadcast media following several reports of violation.

Ravanzo stressed that print and radio/TV ads should comply with the provisions of the Commission on Election (Comelec) Resolution 7767 and the Omnibus Election Code to avoid possible disqualification.

Ravanzo said several local candidates are now being investigated for violating the law on advertisements although he did not name names in the meantime pending results of the investigation by authorities.

He said he will soon send a memorandum to the Kapisanan ng Mga Brodkasters sa Pilipinas local chapter, the Pangasinan Press and Radio Club Inc. (PPRCI) and the Pangasinan Tri-Media Association (PATRIMA) for their information and guidance on the issue of advertisements.

He pointed out that the guidelines are meant to level the field between those who have and those who don’t have resources but he noted that some well-funded politicians are already circumventing the intent of the law believing they can get away with their violations.

He cited an instance when politicians place ads which do not directly identify them but are directly benefited by these claims and announcements.—A.P.E.
