NO POLITICAL VIOLENCE SO FAR

PPCRV to field volunteers

ARCHBISHOP Oscar Cruz of the Lingayen-Dagupan archdiocese expressed confidence that the elections in Pangasinan will be peaceful and orderly.

Interviewed by newsmen at his chancery on Friday, Cruz said he has not seen any indication that the elections in the province will be marred by untoward incidents, just like in the past.

“I am confident that with the help of God, this election in Pangasinan will be most peaceful and orderly and most of all credible,” said Cruz, head of the anti-gambling group Krusada ng Bayan Laban sa Sugal.

He said, the Church is doing its part in helping ensure honest and credible elections.

The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), he said, will field a sufficient number of volunteers throughout the province to ensure that there will be no cheating by any candidate or their groups.

Cruz said the volunteers are mostly members of the laity who belong to organizations of Hail Mary in every town and are now at the forefront of conducting voters’ education.

The archbishop added that right after the voting, the PPRCV will conduct a poll count with the help of all its volunteers who would be gathering the unofficial results from the field.

Center of the poll count will be the St. John Metropolitan Cathedral where the unofficial results for the senatorial, congressional and local positions would be posted on a giant screen for all interested parties to see in the name of transparency.

He said the group is calling on individual voters to make the right choice for the right candidate and will be on hand to assist voters in locating their respective precincts on election day.

The PPCRV has already secured all the voters’ list from the Commission on Elections in preparation for its work during the election.
