Velasco forms line-up in Sta. Barbara
STA. BARBARA—Buoyed up by the warm reception and support of his townmates for his mayoralty bid, retired police general Reynaldo Velasco has formed a formidable line-up in Sta. Barbara under the Victorey Team ticket.
He will team up with former Vice Mayor Ruben Jose and eight other officials, four of them incumbent councilors, and other prominent personalities in the town.
Joining the Velasco-Jose tandem are four of the top incumbent councilors led by Dr. Emmanuel Cabangon, Al Parayno, Ampoy Ocampo and Panis Francisco.
The others are comebacking ex-councilors Rolly Pasaoa and Pruto Jimenez, Brgy. Captain Raul Loresco and upcoming heartthrob and GMA 7 reporter Boyet Paragas.
The Victorey Team is set to formally file their certificates of candidacy on March 27.
“I am elated over the convergence of local leaders including the very warm reception of the townspeople of Sta. Barbara. It’s now crystal clear that majority of my townmates want new leadership anchored on the new politics of reform, change and performance,” said Velasco who opted to run for mayor instead of his earlier plan to vie for the congressional seat in the 3rd district.
He expressed his appreciation over the gesture of former Vice Mayor Jose and the eight candidates for councilor for choosing to team up with him in their collective bid to inject “new politics of reform and good governance” to improve and develop Sta. Barbara.
Acknowledging that he is the underdog in the coming mayoralty race, Velasco said that he is undaunted by the challenge having fought many battles in life as an officer and a gentleman.
Among Velasco’s major plans and programs include helping solve the perennial flooding in Sta. Barbara, the construction of more modern public school buildings, agricultural productivity, youth and sports development, reform in governance, and community partnerships.
