A 15-member Taiwanese delegation, composed of businessmen, government officials and students, visited Dagupan City last week for a lakbay-aral tour to benchmark the city’s aquaculture industry and other major programs.

The group, composed of officers and members of the Association of International NGOs (AINGOS), was led by Lin The-Chang, AINGOS executive director and former chairman of the Institute of Mainland China Studies.

“Dagupan is really a beautiful city and we are here to learn from your experiences,” The-Chang said.

Mayor Benjamin Lim shared with the visitors his insights on the fishery code of Dagupan, which aims not only to generate additional revenue for the city but basically to protect and enhance its river system.

The mayor expressed interest in forging a sisterhood tie with Kaohsiung, Taiwan for potential investment opportunities to further promote the city’s bangus (milkfish) industry.

“We would like to absorb some of the best ideas and in turn draw the same activity back in Taiwan,” Lim said.
