Runners sprint for out-of-school youth

SAN ROQUE, San Manuel—The fun run sponsored by the Pag-rangayan Community Development Foundation, Inc. (PCDFI) for the benefit of the out-of-schools youth held March 10, 2007 here raised P50,700 for its beneficiaries.

Participated in by 65 runners, the 15-K run was won by Jefferson Valdez, 28, of Brgy. Toboy, Asingan, Pangasinan, an experienced marathon runner. Wilfredo Alvarez, 25, a local runner from Brgy. Cabacaraan this town came in a close second with only an 18-seconds time difference from Valdez’ 1:09:30 record. Amando dela Cruz, 22, also a local runner from Brgy. San Juan, this town placed third.

Meanwhile, the 10-K run was dominated by local runners from San Roque. Abel Launico, 30, first; Bruce LeeAndress, 30, second; and older brother Pacifico Andres, 34, third.

The 5-K male race was also conquered by locals. Lito Estoril, first; Angelito Lipata, second; and Ramcie Launico, third.

In the female category, winners were 18-year old May Benedito from Toboy, Asingan, first; Rowena Valdez, second; and Charlene May Ancheta, third VAdm. Virgilio Q. Marcelo, AFP (Ret.), PCDFI Chairman and CEO, thanked the sponsors of the fun run led by Mayor Salvador M. Perez during the awarding ceremonies held at the backyard of the PCDFI office.

He also assured that the initial amount of P50,700.00 contributions to the fun run will be used for the scholarship program on vocational and technical courses for at least 25 out-of-school children from Itogon, San Nicolas and this San Manuel.
