More poster areas as election nears

THE City Election Office is providing more common poster areas in the city due to complaints that campaign materials of senatorial candidates are now being posted indiscriminately everywhere other than the areas designated by the poll body.

City Election Officer Remarque Ravanzo responded to the privilege speech on Monday of Councilor Alex De Venecia who noted that campaign materials of senatorial candidates are mushrooming and are already becoming eyesores.

Ravanzo said the common poster areas are located in front of public markets, public plazas, schools and others, including those in the barangays, plus private houses provided that the owners have granted their permission.

De Venecia warned that there will be even more campaign materials to be posted all over the city once the campaign period for local candidates starts.

To date several officials of Dagupan City have contributed to the messy situation by saturating many of the streets with their own tarpaulins that are obviously meant to advertise themselves.

Ravanzo said he unfortunately cannot do anything against the tarpaulins of the city officials since they are not candidates yet.

He, however, appealed to them and their conscience to remove the same as they would be filing their respective certificates of candidacy anyway.
