ALAMINOS–It’s never over-crowded at the top. Former Governor Oscar Orbos may yet join the fray in the fight for governorship of Pangasinan.

This possibility surfaced amidst the bitter in-fighting among three administration bets – Vice Gov. Oscar Lambino (Lakas), Dr. Jamie Agbayani (Lakas) and Second District Rep. Amado T. Espino Jr. (Kampi).

A group calling itself PADER, short for Pangasinan Advocacy for Democratic and  Electoral Reforms, has mobilized a provincial network of young professionals, businessmen, students, farmers and members of the clergy and other religious sectors to convince Orbos to run for governor anew.

According to Armi Bangsal Lorica, a convenor of PADER, the people of Pangasinan deserve an alternative leadership even as she admitted that the silent majority wish that the former Executive Secretary return as the father of the province.

“A number of our people have given up on most of our political leaders who have failed them. They have stopped dreaming of better lives and better times. Only the poor families who have a member working abroad still cling to a dream that life can get better. Other than that, jueteng is one hard reality that connects the poor and our leaders,” she stressed.

The recent result of a province-wide survey conducted by some religious and civic groups in various barangay consultations pointed to a strong clamor for the former governor to stage a comeback in Pangasinan.

A keen political observer noted that despite the short notice, the lack of preparations and logistics compared to the war chest of the administration bets, the entry of Orbos in the gubernatorial race in Pangasinan will alter the political landscape in this vote-rich province.
