YMCA-Dagupan Karate Team wins anew

YMCA-based Dagupan City Karate Team, with a lean but mean team of only 10 players, reaped 4 golds, 3 silvers, and 3 bronzes to grab the 2nd runner-up spot overall in the “6th Pacoy Ortega Memorial Karate Cup” held February 17, 2007 at Pacoy Ortega Gymnasium, San Fernando City La Union.

Dagupan City wonder boy John Enrico Vasquez of Mother Goose started the medal harvest by winning the Gold in the 5 to 6 years old boys KATA & Silver in Kumite.

But it was the Veterans who sealed the sweet victory when Fidel Salvador Reyes of University of Luzon won the Gold in the 15 to 16 – 60 kg. boys Kumite and Bronze in KATA, Jayson Ramil Macaalay of Lyceum Special Science won Gold in 15 to 16 +60 keg. Boys Kumited and Silver in Kata, Jona Reyes of University of Luzon won Gold in 15 to 16-50 kg. girls KUMITE.

Gerard Martin Tamayo of Dagupan City National High School won the Silver in the 11 to 12 years old boys Kumite, Mariceline Quirubin of Mother Goose won the Bronza in 15 to 16+50 kgs. Girls KUMITE, and Dan Kurt Vidal of Ednas School won the Bronza in the 11 to 12 years old Boys Kata.

This sports event was participated in by YMCA-Dagupan City, Wado Ryu Karate-Do Institute-San Carlos City, Shotokan San Carlos City, Shorin Ryu-San Juan, Shotokan-San Fernando City La Union, JKA-Baguio City, Shorin Ryu-Naguilian LU, Palayan City-Jutso, Nueva Ecija City Karate-Do, Arudan Bangar, and Tipon Martial Arts-Quezon City.
