VMUF gears up for 50th anniversary
As the Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation (VMUF) commemorates its 49th anniversary this week, the institution is already gearing up for an even bigger celebration of its golden anniversary in 2008.
“It’s only one year from now and we will be celebrating the university’s 50th year of existence and everyone is excited!” said Dr. Ma. Lilia Posadas Juan, VMUF president.
This is the common sentiment shared by students, alumni, faculty, staff and administration of the university as they celebrate the 49th Foundation Anniversary on February 14-17 with the theme “Soaring High @ 49.”
“As the golden age is approaching, the mission and vision of the university will surely continue in the hearts of the graduates, students and faculty, not only in this country but to the whole world,” she added.
VMUF has been classified as a Category A institution with the highest number of accredited programs by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA).
Today, VMUF has accredited programs in Nursing (Level 2 RA); Arts, Science, Bachelor of Elementary Education, Bachelor of Secondary Education ( Level 2 Formal) ; Master of Public Health, Master of Science in Teaching, Dentistry. Meanwhile the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration programs were visited recently by PACUCOA for level I accreditation.
VMUF is also a Microsoft awardee and is the first university in entire Region 1 to offer internet access to its faculty and students. In order to facilitate the services to students and personnel, different offices are activated through (LAN) Local Area Networking. The automated Daily Time Record of employees is now active.
VMUF, founded by Dr. Martin P. Posadas and Dr. Rosalina Quebral Posadas, traces its roots to the Posadas Medico-Dental Clinic, which was devoted to charity patients, with only a 10-bed capacity. It grew into a 75-bed capacity medical building. The first course offered in 1958 in the adjoining school was midwifery, then the first of its kind north of Manila.
