Region 1 police is best in the country
LA UNION—The police regional office 1 (PRO1) based here was adjudged the 2006 Best Police Regional Office nationwide during awarding ceremonies held January 31 in Camp Crame, Quezon City in line with the 16th Philippine National Police (PNP) foundation anniversary.
Chief Superintendent Leopoldo Bataoil, Ilocos police regional director, told local newsmen that the honor “was a product of dedication, sacrifice and outstanding performance of our policemen on the ground.”
The Ilocos region police force was cited for the same award in 1997 and 2000.
He said PRO1 was cited for various outstanding operational and administrative accomplishments which were anchored on the four- point thrust program of the Chief PNP, namely anti-crime, anti-insurgency anti-terrorism and internal reforms.
Infrastructure-wise, Bataoil said their regional office is one of the best- maintained regional headquarters throughout the land. All policemen in the regional office help each other in cleaning their surroundings every morning as part of their exercise, he said.
Bataoil said five big marijuana plantations were discovered and eradicated by in two months. And in February, the police intercepted half a ton of dried marijuana leaves in Rosario, La Union.
He said that their motto “The home of citizen-friendly policemen and the protector of human rights” is deeply ingrained among his policemen, which serves as their inspiration in accomplishing more.
In the counter insurgency program, the region accepted the surrender of 32 New People’s Army regulars, and presently complemented by the “Bring Home A Comrade” project.
“This is being adopted by the national PNP. We’re making a difference,” Bataoil said.
He also cited the apprehension of 50 organized crime groups engaged in drug trafficking, robbery hold up, car thefts and extortion. Crime solution efficiency was recorded at 97.57%. On internal reforms, he said PRO1 has been relentless in its transformation program, weeding out the scalawags including those from other law enforcement agents like the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Cordillera where four of its members were arrested for “hulidap” (extortion) operations.
Bataoil also said Region 1 was the first to open up its communication lines to all sectors of society by putting up its own website, where various information and important daily happenings in different areas are reported and posted by his police directors.–EVA
