Team Dagupan harvests medals

Milo Karate Superkids Tournament

THE YMCA Dagupan City Team, composed of six members, brought home one silver and two bronzes in the first series of the 2007 Milo Karate Superkids tournament for 11-years old below on January 28 held at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong Metro Manila.

Ednas School student Dan Kurt Vidal won the silver in the 10 to 11 Boys Kumite, while Mother Goose Playskool student John Enrico Vasquezá and Precious Minds Montessori student Jimko Alcantara got a bronze each.

Other members of the Team are Rhys Palaganas and Austin Paolo Chua of Mother Goose, and David Derrick Rosario of Bels School.

The participation of the Team Dagupan is in line with its preparation for the Phil Olympic Festival which will hold the North/Central Luzon Games on March 5-11 in Vigan. The winners will compete in the National competition on September 3 to 9 in Palayan City.

Team Dagupan is reputedly the strongest team in the North Central Luzon area having earned six gold medals last year and won a gold, silver and a bronze in the National Philippine Olympic Festival held in Lucena City, Quezon.

Dr. Enrico Vasquez, the training director, said the team has yet to be endorsed by the city government, without which its chances to participate and the opportunity to defend their gold medals may be affected.

The other teams that participated in the Milo Super Karate Kids were AAK- Megamall, AKK SM City AAK Alabang, AAK Ateneo, AAK La Salle Greenhills, AAK-St. Benilde, AAK-Lipa City, JKA Batangas, and AAK-San Pedro Laguna.
