More groups receive livelihood assistance

LINGAYEN—Women’s organizations and small-scale entrepreneurs have recently received P770,000 worth of financial assistance as part of the provincial government’s Livelihood Enterprise Assistance Program (LEAP).

            “We have to intensify our programs that provide more opportunities for our people to make them more productive and self-sufficient,” said Governor Victor Agbayani.

            Among the strategies being pursued by the province are giving access to small and medium scale entrepreneurs to cheap credit, technology, skills training and managerial know-how.

            Luz Muego, LEAP manager and provincial population officer, said more than 250 organizations with a total of 9,071 members have been given livelihood assistance worth P67.50 million.

            These groups are now engaged in various income and job-generating projects such as hog fattening, goat raising and trading, commodity trading, poultry raising, bamboo and shell crafts, pottery making, leather craft, fruit and vegetable processing and vending, retailing or sari-sari store business, fish vending and furniture making.

            Under the Gender and Development Program, a total of P620,000.00 was recently released to various women’s groups. The beneficiaries included the San Pedro Ili Women’s Assn. and Bersamin Women’s Assn. (Alcala), Carusucan Women’s Assn. (Sta. Barbara), Tabuyoc Women’s Assn. (Binalonan), Malayo Women’s Assn. (Urbiztondo), United Women’s Assn. (Bautista) and Tagudin Women’s Assn. (Mabini).

            Gov. Agbayani also distributed recently an additional P150,000 worth of checks, under the Livelihood and Enterprise Development Program to several beneficiaries in Sta. Barbara and Urdaneta City.
