Alaminos personnel get pay hike
ALAMINOS CITY — About 367 job order employees of this city’s local government will get a 33.33% wage increase beginning January 1.
Mayor Hernani Braganza has approved City Ordinance No. 2006-10 authorizing the pay hike for job order personnel in the city from P150 to P200 per day.
Councilor Ma. Angela Braganza, principal author of the ordinance, justified the pay hike noting that the last wage increase for the city’s casual employees was five years ago July 24, 2002, raising the salary from P135.00 to P150.00.
Plans of initiating rounds of discussion in the city council in 2004 granting another round of increase for the group were stalled due to budgetary constraints.
It was also on the same year that the city government decided to convert the status of appointments of casual employees to job order status as part of its austerity measures.
Hence, services rendered by those personnel who were affected by the conversion were no longer considered to be in government service.
Furthermore, job order personnel are no longer entitled to any of the benefits or privileges which they used to enjoy as casual employees.
The mayor said the pay hike is long overdue particularly in the face of increasing prices of commodities and transport. — EVA
