More indigent families insured by PhilHealth
MANGALDAN—Some 2,000 Philippine Health Insurance cards were again distributed to indigent families in Manaoag and Mangaldan last Sunday, courtesy of House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr.
PhilHealth Regional Director Ernesto Beltran said the recent distribution has made Speaker de Venecia the top supporter of the PhilHealth indigency program throughout the country.
De Venecia also paid premiums for the PhilHealth cards distributed to indigent families in DagupanCity, San Fabian and San Jacinto.
Under the indigency program, Beltran said De Venecia paid one half of the premium for each PhilHealth member while the other half was shouldered by his office.
The PhilHealth card guarantees free hospitalization not only to the named cardholder but also to the rest of his family.
Beltran said De Venecia is the only congressman in Pangasinan who is using part of his Countrywide Development Fund for distribution of PhilHealth cards to indigent families in his district.
Based on the record of the PhilHealth regional office, the fourth district of Pangasinan is now the leading congressional district in the whole country based on the number of indigents enrolled in the program.
De Venecia envisions giving PhilHealth cards to jeepney and tricycle drivers, including “padyak” drivers. –LM
