Kaluyagan Nen Palaris honors FVR, outstanding Pangasinenses

FORMER President Fidel V. Ramos led outstanding Pangasinenses who were honored with the prestigious Pillar awards by the newly revived Kaluyagan Nen Palaris last Thursday night at the Manila Hotel. 

Among the awardees was the late Fernando Poe Jr. who was conferred a posthumous award. His award was received by Poe’s elder sister Elizabeth, for the late actor’s widow, Susan Roces.

KNP president Francisco Bravo, Senior Undersecretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and a native of San Nicolas, said the revival of KNP, a civic organization of Manila-based businessmen and professionals in Metro Manila, was initiated by former Agrarian Reform Minister Conrado Estrella to unite Manila-based Pangasinenses.

The other Pillar awardees were former Senator Leticia Ramos Shahani, former Central Bank Governor Gabriel Singson, former NEDA Director and Presidential Adviser Hilarion “Larry” Henares, former Agrarian Reform Minister Conrado Estrella Sr., former Ambassador and RCBC Chairman Alfonso Yuchengco; former GMA 7 President Menardo “Nards” Jimenez, former GSIS Chairman General Jose Magno, movie actress Gloria Romero, former Pangasinan  Governors Tito Primicias, Rafael Colet, Vicente Millora and Demetrio Demetria; former Anti-Poverty Alleviation Secretary Marietta Primicias Goco, former Press Secretary   Jesus  Sison and Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo.

The other Pillar awardees honored posthumously were former Governor Aguedo  Agbayani, former Information Minister Gregorio Cendana, former Executive Secretary Jacobo Clave, former Federation of Free Farmers founder Jeremias Montemayor, Dona Consuelo Perez (widow of the late House Speaker Eugenio Perez and two KNP past presidents namely Dr. Jose Tamayo and Justice Porfirio Sison.

Awardees from the police and military services included retired director General Arturo Lomibao, retired deputy director general Reynaldo Velasco, Congressman and retired PNP director Amado Espino, Jr., AFP chief of staff  General Hermogenes  Esperon, retired Lt. Gen. Alberto Braganza, retired Lt. Gen. Jose Calimlim, retired Vice Admiral Virgilio Marcelo, Retired Lt. Gen. Orlando Soriano and five others.

      Leading the awardees in Philippine public service were Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, former Executive Secretary and Pangasinan Gov. Oscar Orbos, incumbent Gov. Victor Agbayani, Alaminos City Mayor Hernani Braganza, Immigration Commissioner Alipio Fernandez Jr. former Agriculture Secretary Leonardo Montemayor and Dagupan City Mayor Benjamin Lim.

      From the private sector, cited were  Mary John Mananzan for gender empowerment, musical genius Ryan Cayabyab, renowned artists Nestor Vinluan and Baydi Mendoza, movie director and film producer Carlo Caparas,  three-time Palanca awardee Al Mendoza and three-time national cycling champion and singer Jesus Garcia Jr.
