Cayetano here Dec. 27
Opposition Congressman Alan Peter Cayetano of Taguig-Pateros in Metro Manila will be the guest of honor and speaker during the ‘Barangay Night’ of the city fiesta on Dec. 27 in lieu of Senate President Manuel Villar.
CayetanoCayetano, son of the late senator Renato Cayetano, was invited by Mayor Benjamin Lim as the city’s special guest.
A possible member of the opposition senatorial ticket in the May 2007election, Cayetano led the opposition in the filing of the second impeachment against President Arroyo and the fight against the convening of the Constituent Assembly without the senate.
Recently, his expulsion from the House has been sought by the First Gentleman Mike Arroyo, his sons Congressman Mikey and Dato, and brother Congressman Iggy.
Meanwhile, City Director Expedita Callantra of the Department and Interior and Local Government (DILG) was appointed by Councilor Librada Reyna, the fiesta’s hermana mayor, to chair the “Barangay Night”.
Callanta said she accepted the chairmanship in order to help unify the warring groups of barangay officials, pitting the forces of Liga ng mga Barangay chapter president Eric Munoz and Poblacion Oeste Barangay Captain Guillermo Vallejos.
City fiesta
The Dagupan City Fiesta 2006 formally started with the lighting of the bangus-inspired giant Christmas tree during the opening ceremony of ‘Manlangalang so Dagupan’ last December 16 in front of the city museum.
Mayor Benjamin Lim and Councilor Reyna led participants and guests in lighting the giant Christmas tree following an an interpretative dance performed by the University of Luzon Theater and Dance Company.
In his remarks, Mayor Lim said that Dagupan is a city of God-fearing people, and encouraged Dagupeños to face life with hope in their hearts.
“This activity highlights the real meaning of ‘light’ in the lives of Dagupeños and the celebration of the Christmas season,” Reyna said.
After the lighting, the UL Chamber Chorus serenaded the crowd with Christmas songs.
Lim then led the Limmewawa caravan thru the city’s 31 barangays for the judging of ‘Manlangalang so Dagupan’.
The multi-awarded UL Drum and Bugle Corps awed the crowd with an exhibition during the mass demonstrations performed by the various departments of the university.
