Canto bags top honors in President’s Golf Cup

TINDA’Y Labi chairman Dennis Canto, won the year’s culminating local golf tour, The President’s Cup, held last December 17, 2006 at the Dagupan Golf and Beach Club in Dagupan City.

Shooting a  high 8 over the par 69 layout, Canto  won with his handicap over similar scores submitted by LTO man Ed Sorio, beer magnate Richie Abalos and retired US Marine OJ Nolasco.

Lowest net 63 went to Pfizer supervisor Rico Dagalea. Sharing top honors were Class A champion OJ Nolasco; 1st runner-up Dr. Toto Juan; 2nd runner-up Col. Raul Ubando; Champion Class B Major Bong Catabay; 1st runnerup Romy Juguilon; 2nd runner up, Arch. Butch Bernal; Champion Class C, RJ Jimenez; 1st runner up, Oscar Lim; 2nd runner up, Norman Velasco; guest champion Dr. Rey Perez.

The final  standing in the President’s Order of Merit were Ed Sorio, adjudged Player of the Year; 2nd – OJ Nolasco who was also named the most improved player; 3rd Richie  Abalos; 4th – Dr. Rod Segui, 5th- Col. Raul Ubando, 6th-Boy Balingit, 7th-Arnold Lioanag, 8th – Dr. Benedict Bernal, 9th – Ernie Dispo, 10th-Gary Velasco.

Dr. Rod Segui, president of the Dagupan Golf and Beach Club, awarded the trophies and fabulous prizes to the winners at INN Asia with Immigration Commissioner Al Fernandez, Land Bank Director Albert Balingit, and Vice Mayor Alvin Fernandez in attendance.

After the awarding ceremonies, the club’s new set of officers were elected. Businessman Richie Abalos was elected as the incoming president of the club.

A special Christmas golf last December 24, 2006 was sponsored by businessman Andrew Eden and wife Divina.
