Youth leaders convene in UP-initiated forum
SOME 100 student council and organization leaders from the different colleges and universities in Pangasinan assembled and participated recently in a leadership camp held in Dagupan City.
The leadership camp, with the theme “Shaping the Future, Leading Today”, was organized by the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman Pagdumala led by Chairperson Michelle Jimenez, who traces her roots to the town of Bugallon. It was aimed at encouraging active participation among youth leaders in community development and local governance.
Resource speakers during the forum included Mapandan-native Luigi de Vera, former UP student regent-nominee Francis Isaac, University Student Council (USC) Vice Chairperson Christopher John Lao, USC College Representative Youssef ”Chip” Velasco and Victory Christian Fellowship Pastor Jhomel Fernandez.
Vice Governor Oscar Lambino and civic leader Rachel Arenas, who both spoke at the event, urged the youth leaders to contribute to the building of a progressive province and a progressive country as a whole.
Lambino said the training camp should be a venue for the youth to harness their leadership skills and underscored the importance of principled leadership and governance.
Arenas, meanwhile, discussed the “politics of consultation and participation”.
UP Pagdumala – a Hiligaynon term for governance and leadership – is a noted socio-academic and political organization at the National College of Public Administration and Governance. It is involved in conducting leadership training workshops, governance forums, and community outreaches in and outside UP.
