AN employee of the city government, who must have been an avid follower of boxing champion Manny Paquiao, is facing an administrative case for gross misconduct and conduct unbecoming when he hit a fellow employee inside the city hall on November 10.

City legal officer Geraldine Baniqued said the city has filed an administrative case against Demosthenes Alcaide, an employee of the Assessor’s Office, for mauling Jose Coquia at around 4:45 p.m. at the city hall premises while he was drunk.

Coquia said Alcaide attacked him with repeated fist blows, hitting his hand, mouth and eyes in front of their fellow employees and clients at city hall.

Coquia was seriously injured and had to be treated in a hospital as evidenced by a medical certificate he submitted to Baniqued’s office.

Baniqued said the incident caused some commotion at the city hall, disrupted employees from their work, tainted the image of public office and hurt the city and public service in general.

She said if the charge against Alcaide can be proven true, he can be terminated from the service.

The two employees were reportedly harboring a standing grudge against each other.

Baniqued gave Alcaide within 10 days from the receipt of the formal charge to submit his answer.

The city legal officer said the accused has the right to avail of the services of a counsel.

This new administrative case is the 14th filed by the city government against the same number of employees since last year. — AQL
