“Pacquiao-Morales” to be re-staged (with a gay twist)

MAPANDAN – The bruising boxing fight dubbed as the Grand Finale III between Philippines’ Manny Pacquiao (The Destroyer) versus Mexico’s Eric Morales (El Terrible) last week was re-staged on November 25 at the town plaza here – but with a gay twist.

Instead of the Filipino and Mexican professional boxers, taking center stage were Maui Pakyaw and Erika Morales, members of the Mapandan Gay Association (MAGAYA), which is holding its annual mini-Olympics.

But unlike the real Grand Finale III when Pacquaio successfully knocked out boxing champ Morales in the third round no one was knocked out in this town’s gay ‘rumble” event.  “It was just for fun and intended to entertain the people,” said Ramon Bonifacio alias Monette, 47, president of MAGAYA.

The boxing show will have repeat performances in the succeeding two Saturdays.

The mock fights, along with several others, involved a one- minute exchange of blows, some drama, or a show of dancing prowess at the ring, hair-pulling and pinching. Six pairs qualified in the games after a weigh-in and medical check-up.

Participating gays said they want the games to be a venue not just for some fun but also for showing the people that the gay community is a productive and good part of society.

Other games lined up include badminton, basketball, tennis, track and field, and men’s boxing. – EVA
