Killer of barangay chair arrested
STA. BARBARA – The local police in Sual town arrested Wednesday the suspect in the killing of a barangay chairman in Sual last March and was presented to the media by Ilocos police regional director Chief Superintendent Leopoldo Bataoil.
The suspect, identified as Sonny Abata, 27, former family driver of the victim, barangay chairman Camilo Ragojos, 51 of Baybay Sur, Sual.
Bataoil, who came here to lead the inauguration of a police community precinct built by the CSI Group of Companies in barangay Matic-matic, lauded the police for the arrest.
He also encouraged the people who may have other complaints against the suspect to come out and file charges.
Bataoil learned that Abata was arrested because of another pending frustrated homicide case filed in court about two years ago.
Chief Inspector Medardo Soriano, Sual police chief, said Ragojos’ wife, Elizabeth, who was with her husband when the murder took place, positively identified the suspect.
He was nabbed after nine months in hiding in Bulacan and Nueva Ecija. He returned to Sual recently and was nabbed by the police inside a videoke bar.
Ragojos was killed in front of the garage of his house while aligting from his car upon arriving home from a wake that he attended together with his wife.
Three 12-gauge shot- gun shells were recovered at the crime scene.
The police have yet to file a murder case against the suspect. — EVA
