Dagupan’s emergency workers get their salaries
AT long last, Dagupan City’s emergency workers (EW) have been paid their salaries after two months of delay.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod approved a P2-million supplemental budget in last Monday’s regular session.
The amount covers the EW salaries September only but it is uncertain yet if the local government can source funds for wages from October to December.
According to officials, the frequent delay in payment of wages of emergency workers was blamed to lack of funds since, according to City Budget Officer Ildefonso Calimlim, the salaries of EWs were not included in the annual budget.
The amount used to cover the salaries was drawn from personal savings of various offices, which is specifically intended to cover the additional outlay for the various programs and activities of the city.
These programs include ecological and environmental sanitation, traffic management, and developmental management of the city; legislative services and security services.
Among those to be funded by the reverted amount is the additional maintenance and operating expenses of the city mayor’s office, such as gasoline and other incidental costs, amounting to P4 million, and consultancy fees worth P175,000.
The consultancy fee went to at least 27 consultants hired by the city, who each draw at least P10,000 every month from the city treasury. – AQL
