The Basic Literacy Education & Support System (BLESS) Philippines, an outreach arm of the Pacific Rim Educational Foundation, is preparing to extend its program in Pangasinan, particularly the towns of Lingayen and Binmaley and Dagupan City.

Under-privileged children between 5 to 8 years old are expected to benefit from the program which provides a free basic education and empowerment services.

The announcement was made by Ms. Rowena Kakilala, director for BLESS Philippines, during the School of Tomorrow 14th National Students Convention (NSC) held at the Narciso Ramos Sports Complex, Lingayen, Pangasinan attended by over 2,000 delegates from all over the Philippines recently.

BLESS Philippines, in partnership with the School of Tomorrow Philippines (SOT), has been making headways all over the Philippines and across the globe giving out-of-school youth (OSY), indigents, tribal and street children free educational courses including character-building and values-formation programs.

“No longer should a child thrive in the shadows of humiliation, shame and insecurity as the BLESS program shares with thousands of young Pangasinenses the keys to becoming a leader in reading and comprehension skills in just 16 weeks,” said Kakilala.

BLESS management is scheduled to meet with Dagupan City Mayor Benjamin Lim next month to discuss the proposal of launching a BLESS center in the city, the first in Northern Luzon.

Mayor Lim has already indicated he welcomes the proposal.

The program, which started in 2003 with only around 30 students, has grown to benefit more than 2,800 students in 10 provinces all over the Philippines as of this year. More than 30 BLESS centers are already operating across the country through church outreach programs and mission organizations.
