UPang HRM studes shine in Baguio festival

The University of Pangasinan’s hotel and restaurant  management students won  major prizes and excelled in the recent 3-day Hotel and Restaurant Tourism Weekend Skills Competition in Baguio City last September 28 to 30.

Winners and participants in the 3-day event were:

Rachelle. Pasalo won silver, but was the highest pointer in floral design presentation bouquet; Tee Joie Saturnino, won silver, in fruit and vegetable carving; Marietta Edora, Glynis Cayabyab and Bernardita Camposano won 4th place in market basket Filipino cooking; and Russel Sarilan, Rachelle Ann Romero and John Alexis Ramos, 4th place, in Quiz Bee.

Cesar Dela  Masa Jr., received a diploma in floral design centerpiece (wedding theme), while Kathleen Cae Hipolito and  Mark Jason Ocampo, won diplomas in fruit and vegetable showpiece.

Four talented students received a diploma in the ice carving (tem) chess pieces: Aldrin Gabrillo, Napza Veloria, Ian Mark Antonio and Amade Carlo Anteneo.  

Chairman Cesar Duque congratulated university officials led by President Catalino Rivera Jr., Senior Vice President Marietta Sorio and Vice President Ofelia Rayos, and the three professor-coaches who brought new honors to the university, namely, Catherine Velasco, Kimberly Cruz and Cristine Caranto.

“The varied and novel competitions were won due to excellent teamwork, detailed preparation and the innate creativity of our students,” said Velasco.

More than 200 HRM students of UPANG also joined the “longest longganisa parade” sponsored by the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio City, aimed to boost Baguio’s  tourism industry.             

Velasco, chairman of UPANG’s international practicum program, said eight students from the department will leave for Singapore for their on-the-job training program.
