New 11 irrigation projects in Pangasinan soon
LINGAYEN – Eleven more irrigation projects will be constructed in ten towns in the province following the signing of a memorandum of agreement by Gov. Victor Agbayani with various municipal officials and local irrigators’ associations.
Engr. Ramon Claveria, head of the province’s Post-Harvest Task Force, said these projects will cost P46.746 million and will cover an area of 950 hectares tilled by 975 farmers.
Provincial Agriculturist Jose Almendares said construction of more irrigation projects seeks to boost agricultural production in those areas, enabling farmers to plant and harvest twice or three times a year.
The new projects are the communal irrigation systems in Baybay Sur, Sual; Bantocaling and Parian, Mangatarem; Lobong, San Jacinto; Inlambo, Mangaldan; Pugaro, Manaoag, San Jose, Urdaneta City; Sta. Cruz, Sta. Maria; Legaspi, Tayug; Sta. Cruz, Sta. Maria, Sta. Maria East, San Nicolas; and Kita-Kita, Balungao.
More than 16,000 hectares have already been irrigated under the province’s Irrigation Development Program since 1998.
