The PUNCH team has a new player.

Marifi Jara, formerly the associate editor of Business-World Online, the country’s premier business newspaper online, will be a part of the editorial team that has sustained PUNCH’s position as Pangasinan’s news leader over the decades.

Ermin Garcia Jr., PUNCH editor-publisher, said he expects the entry of Marifi (short for Maria Filomena), an awardee of the Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines as the 1996 Telecommunications Reporter of the year, and a nominee in the Jaimie V. Ongpin Awards for Investigative journalism for her three-part series on the Presidential Commission on Good Government, to reinforce and improve the paper’s investigative reporting and economic news coverage.

Jara, presently a university scholar at the University of the Philippines in Baguio, and a former Dean’s Lister at the Ateneo de Manila University as a communication arts student, cut her teeth in journalism in 1995 as a reporter for Business World covering telecommunications, travel and tourism, water sector, public works and highways and justice department.
