Domalandan bridge early completion assured
Commuters can expect the repair of the Domalandan Bridge in Lingayen to be completed early next year.
Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. made the assurance after he has been assured by President Gloria Arroyo of the continuous release of funds for the completion of the bridge’s repair.
The government has already spent about P640 million for the reconstruction of the flood-damaged 600-meter-long-bridge whose repair he acknowledged to being pursued actively Rep. Amado Espino Jr. of the Second District, Lingayen Mayor Jonas Castañeda and Governor Victor Agbayani.
Engineer Fidel Ginez, regional director of the Department of Public Works and Highways said it needs at least P114 million more for its completion hopefully early next year.
The bridge, destroyed by a strong typhoon several years ago, is very vital because it links the capital town of Pangasinan to the western towns.
President Arroyo in one of her visits to Lingayen town this year has earlier promised that the bridge will be inaugurated in time for the town fiesta celebration first week of January next year.
Meanwhile, Dagupan City residents, he said, can also expect the first micro finance bank to be established in Dagupan City within 90 days and the establishment of the bangus processing plant soon.
Speaker de Venecia said he obtained an assurance from the Bangko Sentral that the bank will be granted a license.
Once established, he said he aims to replicate it in other towns in the fourth district.
He also confirmed that he succeeded in securing the support of the Korean government for the bangus processing plant project in Dagupan City with a $2 million grant. He said the city government will no longer find need to secure additional loan with the promised Korean funding. — EVA
