BIR Region tops collection nationwide
THE Bureau of Internal Revenue regional office in the Ilocos region has been adjudged number one nationwide in revenue collection.
BIR Regional Director Alfredo Balicanta Jr. said the region was honored during the 100th Anniversary celebration of the BIR for surpassing its collection goal for the year in the amount of P4.400 billion.
Speaking during the Kapihan program of the Pangasinan Tri-Media Association, Balicanta said as of September this year, the region already collected P5.054 billion or 50.12 percent of its target for the nine-month period of P3.338 billion.
He said although they have surpassed their target by 50.12 per cent, they have not slowed down and continued to push for higher collections.
“But it’s not the BIR in Region I that should be congratulated but the taxpayers for it is they who have finally realized their duties and obligations to pay their correct taxes to the government.” he said.
With Balicanta in that forum were Assistant Regional Director Romeo Buan and Beverly Milo, chief of the assessment division.
Of the six revenue districts in the region, District 5 in Alaminos collected the biggest at P2.302 billion, followed by District 4 in Calasiao, P740.06 million; District 3 in San Fernando City, P600 million; District 2 in Vigan, P506.2 million; District 1 in Laoag City, P4001.7 million; and Urdaneta, P502.5million.
Milo said District 5 in Alaminos headed by Merlyn Vicente topped in collection because of the huge payment made by Mirant Corporation which operates the Sual Coal-Fired Power Plant.
She, however, said that District 6 in Urdaneta City had lower production because the payment of taxes from San Roque dam was reduced having approved tax deductions in the amount of P400 million.
