A TASK force was proposed to look into the plight of some 150 laid off emergency workers of the Dagupan City government.

Councilor Alex de Venecia, vice chairman on community affairs of the city council, has proposed the creation of such task force to Mayor Benjamin Lim and Vice Mayor Alvin Fernandez.

He said the task force should extend assistance to the laid-off EWs by way of retraining, retooling and educating them for new opportunities for livelihood.

He is also keen on sending proposals to the different colleges in the city University of Luzon, Lyceum Northwestern University, University of Pangasinan, STI, AMA and PIMSAT to provide scholarship and computer training for the laid off EWs.

Councilor de Venecia has asked help from TESDA (Technical Education Skills and Development Authority), POEA (Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), (PESO) Public Employment Service Office, and Office of the President on Job Creation and Department of Trade and Industry to help place them in job opportunities.

The councilor said he will also seek the help of Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. to support this project to ease the problems of the laid off EWs.
