LEAVE us alone.

This was the sharp retort of Liga ng mga Barangay president Eric Muñoz to Mayor Benjamin Lim who wrote the former last week urging him to settle the discord within the ranks of their organization.

In his letter to the mayor, Muñoz asked Lim to allow him and the Liga members to settle their problems without him getting into the picture.

“I respect you so much, but I do not want to add this organizational problem hanging on your back, so please allow us to settle this among ourselves and ourselves alone,”  Muñoz  urged the mayor.

Lim recently volunteered to act as an intervener to settle the differences among the members of the Liga provided Munoz can muster a quorum in a future meeting.

Muñoz earned the ire of majority of the barangay captains here for his alleged habitual absences in meetings of the Liga and during sessions of the Sanggunian Panlungsod where he sits as an ex-officio member.

Muñoz pointed out that his alleged absences in the city council SP sessions were covered by official leaves and his travels on official business.

“As a member of the SP, I have performed my work and responsibilities to the best I can,” said Muñoz, clarifying that he has not been negligent.

He told the mayor that charges of his alleged failure to muster a quorum in the Liga meetings and alleged loss of moral authority over his constituents are part of a smear campaign against him, with the end view of ousting him as Liga president.

“These allegations are… blatant and malicious lies… these charges come from the disgruntled members of the Liga whose ultimate aim is to grab power. A black propaganda,” said Muñoz.

Muñoz cited the recent election made by his fellow members in the Liga which was declared invalid by the National Liga office, which he said proved that he is still capable of leading the Liga.”

He told the mayor that since he became president of the Liga, he could not recall any single moment where he had an argument with his colleagues.

“I did my best but they did not do theirs,’ said Muñoz.

As to the alleged discord within the organization, Muñoz said, “it is a well-accepted experience that in every organization, there always dissent but it does not mean that when there is dissent there is a failure in leadership.”

“Your deep concern struck deep in my heart but sad to say that those allegations which called your attention are purely internal matters affecting our organization which I humbly believe could be solved by us and by us alone,” Muñoz told Mayor Lim. – AQL
