Lingayen town told to stop prostitution

LINGAYEN – The provincial administrator has called on the municipal government of Lingayen to act on reports that prostitution along the beach front of the capital town has proliferated.

Provincial Administrator Virgilio Solis is referring to a spot on the beachfront that has earned the monicker “Boracay” that rents out sheds and cottages for “short-time” to customers.

Unlike other sheds and cottages usually rented out to families for picnic and family outings, these have become haven for sexual trysts among known prostitutes and minors.

“The  Municipal  government  of Lingayen   has  the sole  jurisdiction over  the sheds and  cottages along  the  beach front  in the town now being used as fronts for prostitution,” Solis said.

The provincial government’s offices are just a stone’s throw away from the capital town’s beachfront.

He prodded the police and the Department of Social Welfare and Development to collaborate and stop prostitution in the beach which if unabated can affect the town’s tourism industry.

The beach used to teem with squatters until Gov. Victor Agbayani had all these removed in one sweep as they were giving the province a bad image. – A.P.E.
