LINGAYEN – The old municipal hall of the province’s capital town is having a P16 million facelift.

Mayor Ernesto Castañeda said that the town hall, built sometime in 1960s, can no longer accommodate the volume of people transacting business, thus the need to expand it.

The local government is reportedly spending almost P6 million while Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr is set to augment the fund with his share of P5 million and another P5 million from second district Rep. Amado Espino Jr.

Earlier, Castañeda has rehabilitated the town plaza, giving it a new look in addition to having  established a common bus terminal, the construction of markets, a slaughterhouse and a material recovery facility.

“Everything that we do is in preparation for our bid for cityhood” the mayor said.

He recalled that when he assumed as mayor, the town was classified as fourth class only but it has quietly yet consistently gone up the ladder as first class by attracting investors and giving them a business-friendly environment, Castañeda added.

“As future city of Pangasinan, we’re building all necessary infrastructures so that the people will voluntarily vote for its cityhood when the time comes,” Castañeda added. – EVA
