Lim urges Muñoz to settle Liga discord
ABSENTEEISM appears to have plagued the city government.
Dagupan City‘s Liga ng mga Barangay president Eric Muñoz was again the subject of the collective complaints of the different councils and punong barangays for his regarding his perennial absences in the meetings of the Liga and in the Sangguniang Panlungsod sessions.
And Mayor Benjamin Lim finally wrote him a letter chastising him for his absences. “More alarming is your failure to call for quorum in the Liga meetings. It seems that you have lost moral authority over your constituents,” Mayor Lim said in his letter to Muñoz dated September 6.
Lim wrote that apparently not only the Liga ng mga Barangay but the public as well, has started to notice Muñoz’s absences. And worse, they now see him as incapable of performing the duties and functions of the head of the organization.
The mayor cited the clamor for a change in the leadership of the Liga when an election was held on March 24 at the City Museum.
However, through the intervention of the National Liga ng mga Barangay which declared the election invalid, Muñoz remains the duly elected president to date.
“With all due respect to the decision of the National Liga ng mga Barangay, I keep my peace hoping that you would make a move to resolve your differences with your colleagues,” the mayor pointed out.
He emphasized that the discord within the Liga must be resolved as it has greatly affected the performance of the organization. “This could not go on”, he said.
Mayor Lim suggested to Muñoz to convene the Liga within seven days from receipt of the letter even as he offered to mediate and to speak to his colleagues to ensure a quorum.
In response to Lim’s letter, Muñoz said that despite all complaints by uncooperative members, he still manages to keep the institution intact.
“But I am still hopingthat those who are up in arms against me will never succeed,” he said.
He pointed out that some of the issues besetting his leadership are but mere smear campaigns with the malicious intent to oust him as president.
