FVR, Flavier to launch book on Josefa Jara Martinez

      A historical A historical book chronicling the inspiring and admirable life story of the country’s first professional Filipino social worker will be launched on September 6, 2006 at the Orchidarium, Rizal Park, Manila with former President Fidel V. Ramos, former First Lady Amelita “Ming” Ramos and Senator Juan M. Flavier as principal guests.

Entitled “Mommy: The Life and Times of Josefa Jara Martinez (Pillar of Social Work in the Philippines),”  the 306-page coffee table book is authored by Melandrew T. Velasco who has earlier written three historical biographies on the Ramos and Valdez families namely: “An Enduring Legacy: The Life and Times of Ambassador Narciso R. Ramos;”  “In A Class of  Her Own: The Life and Times of Angela Valdez Ramos;” and, “Uncle Sim: The Life and Times of   Simeon Marcos Valdez.”

The book “Mommy” is Velasco’s fourth book on the Ramos family which is a special project of the Jara-Gojil-Martinez clan to immortalize the legacy and contributions of Josefa Martinez in nation and institution building in the field of social work. Josefa is the late mother of   former First Lady Amelita “Ming” Ramos, who introduced social welfare in the Philippines at the time when it was an unheard of profession.
