Dynamited fish seized in Dagupan
Some 680 kilos of “galunggong” worth P44,200 and suspected to have been caught with the use of dynamite were seized by the police and representatives of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources while these were being sold at the Magsaysay fish market in Dagupan City Tuesday night.
P/Supt. Mateo Casupang, deputy police chief, said the fish were unloaded from a six-wheeler truck driven by Rodolfo Teodoro that came from Magsingal, Ilocos Sur.
One Carmelita Taal, a fish trader and pointed to as the owner of the confiscated haul, is now facing a case for violation of Section 88 of Republic Act 8550 prohibiting the sale of illegally caught fish to the public.
The driver of the truck was also charged but both are now out on bail.
A fish examiner from the BFAR has certified that all the fish were caught by means of exploded dynamite.
Casupang warned other fish traders from bringing to the city’s market fish that were caught by dynamite as they too will be arrested. – APE
