BINMALEY – The town of Binmaley has become the model for all local government units along the coast of Lingayen Gulf after successfully dismantling all fish pens found in the town over a one year period.

Mayor Simplicio Rosario said the quality of water in various rivers had improved not long after the last fish pen was dismantled, allowing the fish to return to their old habitats and regenerate.

Mayor Rosario said an inventory said there are now only four fish pens situated inside a private property left untouched but he said the owners have been asked to cooperate.

Fish farmers conveyed their gratitude to the municipal government for finally doing away the fish pens and expressed home that the town will ban the use of the pens forever.

He said the municipal government will maintain the ban on the fish pens.

However, Rosario expressed fears that the improved quality of the water in Binmaley may not last if Dagupan City and Lingayen will not also clear their rivers of fish pens.
