Slaughterhouse chief gets off-the-hook
MANGALDAN – The Sangguniang Bayan here decided not to recommend any administrative sanction against the official in charge of the town‘s slaughter house for allowing a stolen cattle to be butchered.
But it directed Slaughterhouse Master Veronica Juanatas and her staff to adopt stricter measures and warned against another violation in the future.
Councilor Wilfredo Mir said Juanatas’ admission that indeed, there was a lapse in the procedures mitigated her case that led to the SP not to recommend for her administrative sanction.
But he said the incident should give Juanatas and her staff a lesson so that they strictly observe established procedures to prevent the butchering of other stolen cattle at the town’s slaughter house.
Mir warned that if the illegal activity is not checked, it will earn a big black mark on the municipality and will discourage people from patronizing the town’s slaughterhouse.
Juanatas assured the SB that her office will implement all safeguards to ensure that incident will not be repeated in the future.
Moreover, she vowed to undertake additional measures to ensure cleanliness inside the slaughterhouse and its immediate vicinity to protect the interests of the general public buying meat coming out from the slaughterhouse.
She said now conducts surprise inspection at the slaughterhouse particularly at night to ensure that meat inspectors and document examiners are in their respective posts. – A.P.E.
