Citizen Lomibao talks on gems in leadership

Retired Philippine National Police Director General Arturo Lomibao shared a few gems of wisdom in leadership and managing people in a speech before Pangasinan Rotarians.

Lomibao said “courage under fire, in defense of your conviction and principles” is what leaders should cultivate always. With courage, he said, triumph follows logically.

Loyalty, which he defined as the tie that binds the commander and troops, or the supervisor to the subordinate, “is the fabric that protects an institution from erosion and demolition”.

While at the helm of the PNP, he said he had “witnessed his troops’ loyalty in the streets when they were met by protesters,: adding, they “did not surrender no withdraw.”

He said “leadership is a way of life,” which is not just about giving orders, adding “If you lead with heart and vision, you will gain the respect and admiration of your people.”

Lomibao cited the Rotarians’ advocacy of “service above self and the four-way test as one of my vital anchors in my work to create a peaceful and friendly community.”

A member of the Rotary Club of Metro Cubao in Quezon City, Lomibao urged his fellow Rotarians to “be true Rotarians, our country needs you more than ever now.”

He said his l5 months as PNP chief was highlighted by 50 modern police stations built and another 50 units renovated.

“Our program of building stronger police stations taught me that teamwork makes everything possible.” He urged leaders to “keep your ears on the ground and your eyes focused on the work.”

“There are no excuses for sloppy work, and for every task left undone, there will be a price to pay,” he said.

Past District Governors Gerpy Erguiza and Nelson Yuchongtian and Assistant Governors Edwin Aguirre and Rogel Rosario led some 200 members of the Rotary Club of Dagupan, Uptown Dagupan, Downtown Dagupan, Metro Dagupan, Central Pangasinan, Alaminos, Mangaldan and Sta. Barbara welcomed fellow Rotarian Lomibao “as an exemplary soldier who has earned the respect of the nation for his integrity and proven leadership in the police service”.

He was introduced by University of Luzon president MacArthur Samson as the “epitome of a good soldier and fine gentleman.”
