27 ‘flesh’ trade workers nabbed in Dagupan
Amid reports of rising prostitution in Dagupan City, “Oplan Kalapati” was relaunched.
The raids in three separate areas in the city resulted in the arrest of some 27 sex commercial workers and pimps.
The two-day raids were conducted by a composite team from the Women and Children Complaints Desk (WCCD) of the Dagupan Police, Public Order and Safety Office (POSO), the Task Force on Nightclubs and Task Force Bantay Dagupan,
Thirteen of the suspects were arrested on M.H. del Pilar alone on Aug. 23 and another 14 were rounded up the following night during the raid conducted that extended to Arellano street and Bonuan.
One of those arrested was a 15-year old high school student from Manila who was promptly endorsed to the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
Those arrested were found loitering and soliciting on the streets. They were charged initially for violation of Article 2002 of the Revised Penal Code on Vagrancy,” Police Chief Edgar Basbas said.
The suspects were found by the WCCD to have no legitimate entertainment services to offer or any employer or show proof of means of subsistence.
Prior to the raids, the WCCD had been receiving reports about the proliferation of commercial sex workers without necessary health permits particularly along Arellano district.
Acting Mayor Alvin Fernandez expressed concern over the plight of women and minors who are being exploited by pimps to work as prostitutes.
POSO chief Erfe Mejia said the city government is regularly monitoring activities inside entertainment establishments to check violations including employment of minors.
