Lyceum Northwestern too has 3 in ‘Top Ten’
The University of Pangasinan did it, and so did the Lyceum Northwestern University!!
UPANG nursing graduate, Gringo de Guzman San Diego topped the Nursing Licensure examination given last June while his classmate Felipe Sotelo took the 8th place in the top ten honor roll.
At the same time, LNU’s Razzle Abalos and Benedict Mayo tied for 8thplace, while their classmate Melody Aquino was 9th placer.
“It’s a nursing milestone in Pangasinan,” exclaimed LNU president Gonzalo Duque, who immediately called up his elder, Cesar Duque, chairman of UPANG, to congratulate him as well.
UPANG Chairman Cesar and President Catalino Rivera said “the university’s emphasis on academic excellence and charting a global presence has started working.”
This year’s national harvest of the nursing board exam takers is only l7, 82l out of 42,006 examinees or 42.4%, according to the Professional Regulation Commission.
UPANG has l62 passers while LNU has 236. Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation and University of Luzon contributed 64 and 17 respectively.
“We are definitely proud of San Diego and Sotelo and all those who passed,” Chairman Cesar Duque said. He asked university president Catalino Rivera Jr. to extend to the San Diego and Sotelo families the university’s felicitations and warmest congratulations.
Friday, jubilant Mangaldan folks came out of their houses to greet their super star son, San Diego, son of a taxi driver, in a motorcade organized by Senior Vice President Marietta Sorio, Dean Ofelia Rayos and Director Boy Rayos when it passed the town.
Town officials led by Mayor Herminio Romero and the Sanggunian Bayan members passed a resolution to congratulate San Diego.
Meanwhile, Atty. Duque said his non-stop campaign for reforms in the CHED and unrelenting fight for the interest and welfare of LNU’s college of nursing “must have inspired them to study hard.”
The younger Duque, who was recently elected executive vice president of the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities (PACU) and education consultant at the office of Speaker Jose de Venecia, said “God smiles at those who really work hard.”
President Rivera said “the UPANG passers were achievers in their own right due to sheer diligence, hard work, prayers and adherence to the university’s commitment to excellence”
Both Duque (Gonzalo) and Rivera welcomed the news that the board exam results will not be invalidated because of a leakage complaint in Baguio City against a review center in the area.
“We played fair and square. Our students worked and studied hard, and it’s only fair that their accomplishments are sustained” Duque said, adding “LNU had a 7th placer in the nursing board last year, Michelle Aglubat.”
Rivera said UPANG has had string of national board placers dating back to Dr. Blas Rayos’ time. Mr. Cesar Duque has sustained and enhanced the tradition,” he added.
The education leaders noted that the world market for nurses has multiplied a hundredfold with the lifting of quotas from the United States and other developed countries.
