Stop wire thefts, Decorp appeals

head cartoonLABRADOR – Unsuspecting Dagupan residents in some barangays can fall victims to ground electrocution if the theft of electric cables is not stopped.

Consequently, the Dagupan Electric Corporation has frantically sought the help of authorities in all its areas of coverage to arrest the continuing rampant theft of its ground wires.

Sarmiento said the ground wires, made of copper, are of value to Decorp because they are attached to their lightning arresters and also serves as protection of people from getting electrically grounded every time they get near Decorp’s electric posts.

While Dagupan police headed by Supt. Edgar Basbas and the Public Order and Safety Office headed by Robert Erfe Mejia have already called all owners of junkshops to a dialogue where they appealed to them not to buy stolen copper wires particularly since the thieves have yet to be caught.

Decorp is the third company in Pangasinan victimized by cable wire thieves. The others are the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company and the Digital Communications of the Philippines.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod headed by Vice Mayor and presiding officer Alvin Fernandez already vowed to pass an ordinance that seeks to stop cable thefts.

Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo said he will introduce a resolution seeking junkshop owners to put up streamers in front of their establishments stating that they are not buying stolen items.
