Province to implement more irrigation projects
LINGAYEN – A bonanza of irrigation projects, roads, bridges and school buildings are forthcoming for the Pangasinenses following the approval by the Land Bank of the Philippines of the province’s P300 million credit facility.
Gov. Victor Agbayani made this assurance last Thursday during the signing of a memorandum of agreement at the Urduja House here for the construction of at least 18 more communal irrigation systems worth P59 million in various towns and cities in the province.
In his speech before mayors, barangay leaders, and officers and members of various irrigators’ associations, Agbayani stressed that the beneficiaries of the projects should not worry about the loan.
“Ang probinsiya ay umutang upang maibigay ang kailangan ninyong proyekto. Wala kayong babayaran ditto dahil angprobinsiya ang magbabayad dito,” he said.
Emphasizing that “development could not wait,” Agbayani said the loan proceeds will be utilized for projects such as roads and bridges, irrigation facilities, school buildings, the rehabilitation of public buildings, including the historic Sison auditorium which is up for conversion into the province’s premier culture and arts center.
He said Landbank officials told him that Pangasinan’s credit worthiness is about P1 billion, but the provincial government prudently opted to borrow only P300 million.
Once completed, the new irrigation facilities will serve an area of about 1,462 hectares, in addition to the 16,000 hectares being served by 72 CIS already completed, according to Provincial Agriculturist Jose Almendares.
