Province celebrates Nutrition Month


LINGAYEN – With the theme,
“Kumain ng Right, Para Maging Batang Bright”, the province celebrates Nutrition Month this month featuring various activities in line with Governor Victor Agbayani’s continuing efforts to boost the province’s human resources development program.

According to Dr. Jackson D. Soriano, OIC-provincial health officer, the focus of the celebration will be on the improvement of the nutritional status, particularly of the in-school and out-of-school children.

Another feature of the celebration is the training on the culture and preparation of cheap but nutritious marine products such as tilapia among the women in the towns of Bolinao and Bautista, courtesy of Department of Science and Technology.

There will also be iodized oil injection among goiter patients on July 20 at the Umingan Rural Health Unit to be followed by supplemental feeding, deworming and distribution of ECCD cards on the following day.

Vitamin A distribution for post partum in all districts is set on July 25.

The Patak sa Asin program will be implemented in various markets and food establishments in the province.

A nutrition forum, food assistance program for pre-school children, food demo and iron supplementation program were earlier undertaken as part of the celebration.

The month-long celebration will also feature nutrilympics, information and education campaign on nutrition month messages in science and health, symposium on nutrition issues, and height and weight assessment among school population, courtesy of the department of Education.
