Pandaragupan Youth Orchestra formed

At least 33 talented and musically-inclined students, mostly from indigent families, were selected to form the Pandaragupan Youth Orchestra.

The orchestra was formed on the initiative of the Pandaragupan Youth Orchestra, Inc., made up of business leaders, professionals, music teachers and members of Non-Government Organizations.

Jeslito Seen, one of the incorporators of PYOI, said members of the orchestra were chosen from a field of more than 50 applicants who were screened by a panel headed by Adolfo Mendoza, a music professor.

They were chosen based on their music inclinations as well as their capability to read and understand music notes.

Mendoza, married to the former Virginia Llamas of Dagupan, said the youth orchestra was the fulfillment of his earlier promise to organize one for the city and province so that the youth here can seek national if not world recognition in music.

The members of the orchestra will be trained to handle violin, cello, string instruments, brasses, wood wind and percussion instruments, all of which comprise an orchestra.

Mendoza was earlier instrumental in bringing the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra of which he is the conductor that entertained Dagupenos and their guests during the city fiesta last year.

Seen said those who will excel from among those chosen will be given music scholarships aside from the rare chance of playing in major concerts in Manila and other provinces.

Seen, former president of the Dagupan Jaycess Inc. plays the saxophone and is one of the members of the Bossings band in the city.
