Lomibao: From General to Governor?

MANGALDAN – Will Citizen Arturo Lomibao run for governor in 2007 elections?

This rumored scenario suddenly became a distinct possibility after the former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General discussed his future with members of local media.

What he quickly denied was the rumor that he is being groomed to be the next chief of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

“That (position) was never offered to me,” said the retired chief of the PNP.

He said the speculation was rife simply because there is no permanent director at the NBI although he confessed having received offers to join government service.

After 38 years in the police service and 22 days after he bowed out of office as PNP chief, Lomibao said aside from government service, he is also considering joining the corporate world or seeking an elective position.

This confirms earlier reports that Lomibao may run for governor in Pangasinan in 2007.

But he said he “cannot decide as yet because this will depend on conditions which will be obtaining on the ground that’s why I’m also making an assessment on a day-to-day basis if I will have a chance or if I will be up for the position.”

“Any elective position is an option for me. The bottom line is government service,” he said.

He added that although politics is perceived by some to be a chaotic world and that he might have a hard time fighting a political battle, Lomibao said it depends on how one perceives it.

But he admitted that he had in fact told President Arroyo in one of their meetings that he will be available for any position that the President believes he “is competent” to occupy.

Meanwhile, Lomibao said he is catching up on his sleep now that he is jobless.

After he packed up his things in his official residence in Camp Crame, he said his life became very simple by doing personal matters like visiting relatives and friends in the province, reading books and sleeping.

He however refused to elaborate on his reported wedding plans but he added that he would like to get married again to have “somebody to share your sorrows, your happiness, your success or failures.” – EVA
