Daily wage hiked from P15- P25
WORKERS in the Ilocos region will receive adjustments in basic pay level and a P3-13 increase in daily wage, or a total of P25 increase effectively.
Wage Order No. 11 issued by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board for Region I last July 14 will increase basic pay level from P15 to P25.
The Wage Board arrived at the amount by integrating into the basic wage the P12 Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) previously given by industries under Wage Order No. 10 and adding new basic wage adjustments ranging from P3 to P13.
Department of Labor and Employment Regional Director Guerrero Cirilo, concurrent RTWPB chairman, said that as in previous wage orders, the Board followed the “industry approach” in adjusting the basic wage of workers.
He said data from the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) helped the Wage Board in assessing the performance of various sectors such as the agriculture and service sectors.
Cirilo said the labor group’s wage proposal ranges from P10 to P125 in basic wages and across the board region wide.
The management side proposed a status quo position to a P10 wage adjustment and other alternative approaches of increasing wages such as profit sharing scheme and non-wage benefits.
All the members of the seven-man task force agreed to the adjustments in the basic wages of workers provided these are proportionate to the industry sector’s “capacity to pay”.
Under the scheme, workers from the slow growth industry will receive P3, P7 to P8 from the moderate growth industry; and P15 to P25 from the rapidly growing industry.
Cirilo stressed the importance of the Board’s action in adjusting the basic wage of workers, saying this translates to more benefits since computation of the 13th month pay, overtime pay, Social Security System and other labor standard benefits is based on the basic wage and not the COLA.
