Agoo fishermen dominate Bolinao bankathon

HE visiting and well-prepared Agoo (La Union) delegation scored a stunning and dominating 1-2-3-4 victory in the just concluded 2006 Bolinao Bankathon Formula Open held last Saturday at Bolinao Fishport in barangay Luciente Uno Bolinao town.

The well-financed and physically-fit Agoo fishermen led from the start up to the finish to pocket the four major prizes worth P22,000 and a brand new unit of 16 horsepower motor boat engine.

The ‘Madonna’ Banca piloted by Albin Estacio and owned by Mario Estacio topped the race to bag the Briggs and Stratton 16HP motor engine donated by Gov. Victor Agbayani.

The ‘Leah’ Banca guided by Mario Estonelo and a property of Manuel Pineda came in far second to earn P10,000. The top two finishers received trophies donated by Punta Rivera Beach Resort of the said town.

It was a photo finish third place win for ‘PJ’ Banca steered by Danilo Carura and owned by Mario Estacio to earn P7,000. ‘Lion Heart 2’ Banca of Johnny C. checked in fourth driven by Dominador Quero to net P5,000.    

The one- day event was a joint project of the Municipal Government of Bolinao under the initiative of the town’s chief executive Alfonso Celeste in cooperation with the Municipal Planning and Development Office headed by Brunner Carranza and assisted by Ms. Cynthia Bruant, proprietress of the Sundowners Restaurant where the race started and finished.

The four-kilometer motorboat race was participated in by 20 contestants including three pitted by Sual Vice Mayor Dionel G. Caburao.

Aside from Gov. Agbayani, the affair was supported by Ginebra San Miguel Corporation which donated P10,000, t-shirts for the participants, streamers and banners; the LGU of Bolinao, Bolinao Hotel Resort and Restaurant Owners Association, Cool Spot Beach Resort Hotel, Dos Flores Beach Resort, Treasures of Bolinao Beach Resort and the Bolinao Video Oke  Owners Association.

Bolinao’s prominent personalities led by well-known philanthropists Mr. and Mrs. Feliciano de Perio, ex-Commissioner Renato Orlanda, Bing Dodson, Kenneth Elleth, Ms.Tutu Almonte, provincial administrator Atty. Virgilio Solis, Samuel Lam, Willy Carranza, Alladin Alegre, Mrs. Amor Bona, were on hand to support the bankathon.
